Nerds By Default

Or, an About Us by Any Other Name.
In retrospect,

It was probably all LEGO's fault.

Taking things apart and putting them back together.
And since it started very early on, it also became taking a screwdriver to toys and broken electronics.

And from there it slowly evolved into putting them back together, too.

I love the process of figuring out how things work, how they go together, discovering whatever's broken and how to make it work again.

Technology has been stuck in a cycle of constant refreshes and chasing the new thing, with long patterns of forced obsolescence. By a combination of lack of general knowledge and intentional design shortcomings, much of modern technology can be sidelined by minor issues.

I have a mixed relationship with technology, to be honest with you. On one hand, I've always been fascinated by how it all works. Even as a child I was frequently helping adults with computer issues, solving their problems with a couple of clicks. On the other hand, I feel like I understand it well enough to not trust it, because I realize the limitations.

Now an adult with several children, it's a revolving door of different devices breaking or needing upgraded and passed down to the next kid, so I've been kept on my toes just trying to make sure everyone has something that works!

In our current age, electronics have become so core to so much of modern life that having access is becoming an essential, if not a right.

I've always had a passion for keeping things alive for as long as they're possibly useful, and I like to be able to extend that to other people. There are too many stories of people's only computer being a laptop, a battery or a hard drive goes out and it ends up being stuck in a closet and limiting what they can do, and I enjoy being able to solve that problem.
