The new generations of CPUs from both AMD and Intel have received mixed response so far as in both cases they've been substantial redesigns of the architecture, leading to a lot of improvements that have only seen marginal improvements in some cases, or even regressions in others. AMD's Ryzen 9000 series saw only very modest increases despite lower power draw, while Intel's new Ultra 200-series clearly has encountered a lot of teething issues transitioning to a multi-chip "tiles" design from their unified previous processors and has seen largely regressions despite much improved efficiency.
In particular PC gamers - the most enthusiastic buyers of the latest hardware - have been particularly disappointed by the lack of real advancement and reasons to upgrade this generation, until now!
The Ryzen 7 9800X3D is here, and has not merely replaced its predecessor but provided those huge advances that enthusiast gamers were waiting for! By eliminating some of the compromised aspects of the previous-generation designs plus making other improvements, this new CPU is able to boost higher, sustain higher performance, and make the most of the improvements this generation.
Performance across games has been raised with Hardware Unboxed's testing averaging an 11% improvement over the reigning 7800X3D in their suite of games. No doubt this CPU will be the one to have for every high-end gaming build for the foreseeable future, and we're happy to announce that it's available now, in our pre-spec Maestro gaming computer!
